My name is John, and I invite you to use that name when you talk to me. I'm a native Oregonian and a third generation Disciples of Christ minister. I graduated from High School in Medford and from college at Northwest Christian College in Eugene. I received the doctor of religion degree from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California in 1974 and was ordained. I have served congregations in Los Angeles, Riverside, Bakersfield, and Merced California. For 9 nine years I was the pastor of First Christian Church in Grants Pass, Oregon. Since March 1991, I have been the senior minister at First Christian Church, here in Corvallis. Since November 1968 I've been married to my life partner, Lynnie. Our son Jeremiah and his wife, Nan, live in Portland. My daughter Emily and husband, Steve Herb, live in Corvallis with my grandchildren, Maya and Elias. The Herbs are very active in the life of our church, for which I am both grateful and happy. My sister, Patricia Evans is the senior minister of First Christian Church in Albany. My parents, Rev. Dr. Fred and Mildred Evans live in Corvallis and participate in both the Corvallis and Albany congregations. I have two other siblings, Steve and Holly, who live with their families respectively in Idaho and California. Other than tending the church, and watching my grandchildren grow, there are several pursuits that occupy me. I'm a bicycle rider, daily walker, and a tai chi chuan player. I'm a movie buff, novel reader and appreciator of good food. I'm partial to the Oregon coast, but I have also back packed and camped in the mountains. To me the church is a community of faith, celebrating expressing and growing in God's love. I'm glad the sign at the door of our church says "Everyone Welcome Here."
