Information:
I grew up in Corvallis and was an active member of First Baptist Church. In June 1975, I was invited by Kay Smith to try out First Christian's all-new Thursday night contemporary service, initiated by Senior Minister, Art Morgan. On that Thursday evening in June 1975, Kay, who played bongo drums with the Folk Musicians, arrived early and went back to get her instruments. I was alone, waiting for her in the sanctuary, when in walked a young banjo player whose name was Stu. He was finishing his doctorate in Physics at OSU. Well, I knew a good deal when I saw it, and so I married that banjo player and started going to church with him. Finally, deciding I couldn't change all of you into Baptists, I decided to officially join this congregation on Easter Sunday 1978. I hold a B.A. in Near Eastern Archaeology and Biblical Studies, as well as one in Theology, from Wheaton College. I spent the summer of 1968 on an archaeological study tour in the Near East. I excavated at Tekoa, a little village six miles south of Bethlehem, the birthplace of the Old Testament prophet, Amos. For over twenty years I was a full time wife and mother of our three (now-grown) children. I have taught Sunday school, sung in the choir, served as an elder, and made the church my second home. I guess you could say I still work at home-my "home-away-from-home" here in the office of First Christian Church and the Pastoral Counseling Center. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, music, and being with my family.
